Gators v Sooners

Quick post here on tonight’s BCS National Championship Game.  Personally, I am over the BCS and the controversies that pop up during every college football season.  However, since a playoff doesn’t appear likely in our lifetimes, this is the best that we’ve got.

Pat Dooley of the Gainesville Sun sets up the game here.  Very interesting to note that Oklahoma and Florida have never met in the history of the two schools.  For that alone, I suppose we should be thankful for the matchup.

Dan Wetzel of Yahoo! Sports, an outspoken critic of the current system, makes the point that tonight’s game will nonetheless crown the true national champion.  In his words: “The BCS isn’t fair, but dismissing it at this point to crown a champion out of spite wouldn’t be fair to Florida or Oklahoma, who didn’t do anything wrong.”

Au contraire, says Rick Reilly of ESPN.  His national champion is the undefeated Utah Utes, fresh off their convincing upset of Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.

Me?  I’m looking ahead to a tournament that actually allows college athletes to determine a champion by winning games on the court rather than a computer.  Selection Sunday is just 66 days away.

But, if I had to pick a winner tonight, my money would be on the Gators.   And if you just can’t wait for kickoff, check out coverage on the live webcast, beginning at 6pm ET.
