Vinyl Revival

On the surface, the fact that Nielsen Soundscan reports that sales of LPs were up by 89 percent in 2008, from 990,000 in 2007 to 1.88 million, is a real head-scratcher. On further review, maybe not so much. Check out a great analysis from PC World for a few reasons behind this resurgence. Makes me wonder how the vinyl pressers are keeping up. Sounds like a good business opportunity for the right entrepreneur.

For the record, here is the list of the Top 10 vinyl sellers in 2008:

1. Radiohead – In Rainbows
2. The Beatles – Abbey Road
3. Guns N’ Roses – Chinese Democracy
4. b-52’s – Funplex
5. Portished – Third
6. Neutral Milk Hotel – In the Aeroplane Over The Sea
7. Pink Floyd – Dark Side of the Moon
8. Fleet Foxes – Fleet Foxes
9. Metallica – Death Magnetic
10. Radiohead – O.K. Computer
