Talkin’ Baseball

The first significant event on the Major League Baseball calendar occurs Monday with the release of this year’s Hall of Fame Class of 2009.

While Rickey Henderson is a shoo-in for induction, the fate of three other superstars rests in the balance. I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment of Michael Bauman at mlb.com who makes the case for Jim Rice, Andre Dawson, and Bert Blyleven to join. All three of these helped define the era in which they played with their greatness.

I will be waiting for the announcement on Monday at 1:30pm Eastern to see if justice is served. A HOF class with these four would be the best since Robin Yount, George Brett, and Nolan Ryan were voted in together 10 years ago.

For another baseball relic that helped define the era of Rice, Dawson, & Blyleven check out this original trailer from one of the all-time classics. Pitchers and catchers report to spring training in just over a month.
