Rod Blagojevich Superstar!

Never underestimate the brilliance of The Second City comedy troupes.  I cannot wait to get to the “Land of Lincoln” to check out Second City’s new theatrical skewering of infamous ex-Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich.

Preview performances of “Rod Blagojevich Superstar” began this week on the Near North side of Chicago.

And, according to The Second City’s official website: The cast of “Rod Blagojevich Superstar” was in for a surprise at their first preview Tuesday night as 20 staffers from the office of the ex-Gov came as a group to the show – including Blago’s former press secretary Lucio Guerrero. The group loved the show and stayed after the performance to talk to the cast and even offer some notes – apparently our Rod doesn’t swear enough.

The Chicago Sun-Times dedicated some ink to the musical this week and NPR (in conjunction with Chicago Public Radio) also provided its take, including an interview with one of the show’s creators and some choice audio clips.

The good news is that this unbelievable saga, so ripe for parody, will keep providing new material for the show’s writers.  Expect this production to enjoy a great run as Blago heads toward his criminal trial.

Oh, and one note to Rod himself – go away and cut the talk show circuit short.  Now!
