Boston’s Finest

Happy 63rd (!) birthday to John Geils, better known to the world as the founder and lead guitarist of The J. Geils Band.

Boston rock royalty since their days as the J. Geils Blues Band 40 years ago, the band reunited last night to christen the new House of Blues on Landsdowne Street.

Sounds like a fun night.  Maybe they are just a glorified bar-band, but what the heck is wrong with that?

If nothing else, the success of the Freeze Frame album and the 6 weeks that its ubiquitous single Centerfold spent at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the early 1980’s means the name J. Geils will always ring a bell for everyone of a certain age.

Which reminds me – does anyone know whatever happened to that channel that they used to call MTV?
