Talk about mud flaps

Did you know that the average American attends an average of two concerts a year

I would argue that it’s good for the soul to exceed that number, and Pollstar’s Top 50 Tour Chart may give you some ideas as to which of your favorite bands and artists will be on tour in the upcoming months.

But this week brought an announcement of a smaller show that just jumps out as a must-see event for anyone who can still afford the tickets.

Mockumentary geniuses Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer are touring the US & Canada in April and May, bringing to the stage the brilliant tunes from the landmark Spinal Tap movie as well as the criminally underrated A Mighty Wind.

NPR caught up with the “band” at their press conference this week in Los Angeles.  They are calling this the Unwigged Tour, as there will, alas, be no heavy metal hair, spandex, or codpieces as part of this show.  What there will be is acoustic versions of the classics along with some new, previously unreleased material.

I can’t wait – everything from “Big Bottom” to “Corn Wine” promises to make this a most memorable evening.

And lucky for you, tickets are scheduled to go onsale this weekend through the various advance ticketing vendors.  All information on dates, venues, and onsale times can be found here

In the meantime, be sure to check out Harry Shearer’s brilliant weekly radio broadcast, Le Show.  One listen and you will be hooked.
