Let the games begin

bracket

The field is set.  The ball is tipped and there you are.  You’re running for your life, you’re a shooting star.  Sorry, I was just having a “One Shining Moment” moment.

The NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament begins with Tuesday’s play-in, followed by the greatest 4 days in sports – the first and second round games – with 48 games in 8 different locations around the country.

Congrats to the Arizona Wildcats for clinching their 25th consecutive appearance.  Not only is this the longest current streak, but they are challenging the longest streak of all-time, North Carolina‘s record 27 straight NCAA appearances from 1975-2001.

The bubble popped for Kentucky after 17 straight NCAA appearances, leaving the five longest current streaks as follows:

1 – Arizona (25)
2 – Kansas (20)
3 – Duke (14)
4 – Michigan State (12)
5 – Gonzaga, Texas, Wisconsin (11)

The entire field, bracket style, can be found here.  Action continues through the championship game at Ford Field in Detroit on April 6th.

And for those of you wondering which schools’ fans are stinging the most tonight, look no further than San Diego State, Auburn, Creighton, and Florida who each took home the dubious honors of a #1 seed in the NIT tournament.  So close, yet so far away.

Enjoy the games wherever you are.  I’ll be missing some work this week, guaranteed.
