The more you get angry, the angrier you get

In the words of Dr. David Bruce Banner, “Don’t make me angry. You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.”

OK, it may be a stretch to take medical advice from The Incredible Hulk, but you may be interested in the teachings of a real doctor.

Dr. Jeffrey M. Lohr of the University of Arkansas is featured in this piece from NPR in which he proposes that getting angry is not the catharsis it was once thought to be and that, in fact, getting angry actually makes you angrier.

Confused?  Doubtful?  Just plain angry?  Then you may be a candidate to express that anger at Sarah’s Smash Shack, where the tagline is: “Because sometimes…you just need to break something!”

Personally, I don’t understand what a “Smash Shack” is doing in San Diego, one of the most mellow spots in the world (CVB motto: “Happy Happens” – I kid you not), but I guess to each his or her own.

As for me, I think I like the good Dr. Lohr’s advice.  We should all work on speaking out our anger without getting emotional about it.

Seems like there are a lot of angry people these days.  The least we can do, dear readers, is try to lead by example.

Good luck with that.
