Big news out of Alabama

No offense to the great state of Alabama, but it’s not every day that we find it interesting to post about activities of the Crimson Tide.

Today is different, as the University of Alabama has hired Anthony Grant as its new men’s basketball coach.

Grant is the first African-American in Alabama history to oversee either of the two primary revenue sports in Tuscaloosa.

Alabama football was “very late to the dance” when it came to integration and controversially bypassed Sylvester Croom for the head coaching job in 2003.

Progress sometimes comes slowly.  But, black or white, Grant is a great hire as he is no stranger to success

And credit current head football coach Nick Saban for his involvement in pushing for a coach to attempt to lift the ‘Bama hoops profile to that of its championship-winning (and historically significant) football team.

The hire is official and the press conference is set for Sunday at 6pm Central, streaming at

Virginia Commonwealth’s loss is Alabama’s gain.  It was just a matter of time that Grant gained control of a top program.  And just a matter of time before Alabama caught up to the rest of the NCAA.
