This Ad’s For You
Great list today – and our soft spot for these quick bites of argument-inducing data remains intact.
Today, courtesy of Billboard, is the list (with requisite video) of The 5 Worst (And Best) Ad Songs.
Their six-person panel of advertising and branding experts came up with some real doozies here.
Spoiler alert, that the #2 Best Ad Song of All-Time might look a little something like this:
And just wait until you read (and watch) their list of the five worst. So many to choose from, but they’ve got some real “winners” here.
I was on board with Neil Young twenty years ago when he pilloried the commercialism of music with This Note’s For You. However, the sentiments (and, quite frankly, the entire album) do sound incredibly dated now.
I’m not thrilled about it, but a tasteful use of a song in an advertisement can be as good an introduction to the music (and the artist) as any video on MTV ever claimed to be.
Of course, crass is crass. And I’m glad to see at least a few of these called out by Billboard. I’d love to see the “Dishonorable Mention” list someday.
