I Love This Game (In The Offseason)

With all due respect to Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett, may they rest in peace, today was all about the NBA for most sports fans.

And, of course, you have plenty of places to go for instant analysis on tonight’s developments in New York during the annual NBA Draft

NBA Draft

Not to mention the juicy stories on some of the names traded this week (Shaquille O’Neal, Vince Carter, Richard Jefferson, and more) that are firing up fans in their new hometowns.

As for me, I find the whole thing genuinely fascinating – it looks like there are only a few teams truly prepared to make a run at a title next year, while others are content to wait for the vaunted free agent class of 2010, and the majority of the league looks to shed salary while “rebuilding” for a potential run well down the road.

So, as interested observers take a deep breath and try to figure out what it all means and what moves might be next, I direct you to a couple websites that are somewhat under the radar but provide great meat for the obsessed hoops addict to chew on.

If you’re not already hip, be sure to check out DraftExpress for a recap of this year’s draft (and a look ahead at future drafts) and HoopsWorld for all the buzz on trades, both confirmed and rumored.

There’s a long way to go before the 2009-10 season tips off and there will be plenty of time to determine who will have the best shot at supplanting the Los Angeles Lakers as champions.

In the meantime, enjoy the rumors, innuendo, and general madness of the NBA offseason and appreciate that you don’t always need to rely on the most obvious sources for all of your “breaking news”.
