Shaq wants you to Go Green

That Shaquille O’Neal is one sneaky guy.  And, no, I am not referring to that little stunt that he pulled on Steve Nash before bringing his new series “Shaq Vs” to ABC.

No, I am talking about Shaq popping up in reference to his involvement as an investor in GreenHouse International, “a purveyor of green building services and products, including the revolutionary at-home MicroFueler™.”  Who knew?

It is the E-Fuel MicroFueler™, in fact, that was in the news today as the $10,000 system that converts waste wine, old beer, and other waste products into pure Ethanol (E-Fuel) was featured in today’s Los Angeles Times.

Hey, I know the guy is making a “green” investment primarily to make some more green.  I get it – but still, of all the things to invest his hard-earned cash in, I’m impressed that he’s chosen to get involved in technology that could help “break the oil infrastructure”.

According to the Times article, there has only been one installation of the MicroFueler™ to date.  But it won’t be the last.  Now it’s just a matter of convincing a skeptical public that there will be a worthy return on investment.

Factoring in a $5,000 federal tax credit, an annual household fuel consumption of 2,080 gallons and a $2 charge a gallon, GreenHouse estimates the average consumer payback time is about two years.  Those types of numbers, if accurate, will help the cause.

As for Shaq, it will be interesting to see which of his “teams” performs better over the next year – the Cavs or GreenHouse.  All I’ll say is that at his age, he might be bringing that MicroFueler™ with him to Cleveland.  And setting it up right in the locker room to fuel up and help survive that grinding 82-game schedule.
