As selected by a “jury” of your peers
NPR listeners – they walk among us.
And, with the conclusion of 2009 upon us, the excellent NPR music program All Songs Considered brings us the best of the bunch as chosen directly by those listeners.
Follow the link here to discover those 25 songs chosen to represent the best music of 2009.
You’ll have the chance to listen to the full two-hour show with commentary or just skip directly to the list and stream any of the songs, including #1 choice – the song Two Weeks off the album Veckatimest by Grizzly Bear.
It’s a relatively predictable list if you are a regular NPR listener (or Pitchfork reader, for that matter) but the overview is well-done and, if you haven’t had the opportunity to discover some of these lesser-known artists who are busy buzz-building, what have you got to lose by downloading the show and checking it out?
As for me, the song off this list that most grabbed me in 2009 had to be Metric’s Sick Muse off the album Fantasies. We’ve riffed on Metric before and odds are good that it won’t be the last time. Glad to see NPR listeners were paying attention.
As for the rest of the list, you can be the judge. Just don’t look for any Black Eyed Peas or Beyoncé here.
